FAQ

What items should we bring to participate in the competition?

Please bring whatever materials you need to develop the following:

i.      One 8.5” x 11” pages of narrative explaining your team’s approach to Site Design, Spatial Design, Universal Design, Sustainable Development, and Constructability/cost;

 ii.      One (1) 11” x 17” site plan at 1” = 8’-0” scale;

iii.      One (1) 8.5” x 11” roof plan at 1” = 8’-0” scale;

iv.      Up to three (3) 8.5" x 11” floor plans at 1” = 8’-0” scale as are needed for the design;

 v.      Up to two (2) 8.5” x 11” sections at 1” = 8’-0” scale;

vi.      Up to two (2) 8.5” x 11” drawings addressing modular construction, construction techniques (e.g., wall sections), and construction methods; and

vii.      Up to three (3) 8.5” x 11” three-dimensional sketches or renderings of the house.

 ***Teams are limited to twelve (12) 8.5” x 11” pages and one

(1) 11” x 17” site plan.***

 

Will architect teams have wifi access?

Your student partners will have their UB wifi access, though it’s uncertain whether servers will be up and running. Feel free to bring hot spot materials with you to ensure you have adequate access.

 

Will we be able to print onsite?

Yes, printers are available onsite and can print up to 11”x17” pages.

 

What is the schedule for the competition?

Below is the lineup for the Saturday event. The panel discussion on Friday evening will provide more detail and allow for additional Q&A.

 

Saturday, October 22

8:00 am Doors Open to Hayes Hall, Room 403

8:30 am Breakfast (outside Hayes Hall Room 403) & drawings begin

3:30 pm Pens down, Submit Drawings to UBbox

3:30 - 4:30 pm Team Presentations (5 minutes each w/ 2 minutes of Q&A)

4:30 - 5:15 pm Jury Deliberation

5:15 pm Winners Announced

 

What will we be presenting? Where will the documents be submitted?

Each team will have 5 minutes to present their designs and 2 minutes of Q&A with the judges. Documents will be submitted electronically, or via USB in the case of wifi issues (USBs will be provided). Materials will be printed and pinned by LISC and/or UB staff/students for community review.

 

How will professional teams be paired with students?

Teams will be matched on Friday evening at the panel presentation and will have a chance to meet their student partners.
